A Dreamy Intimate Resort Wedding in Thailand

Phoebe and Devon celebrated their love surrounded by their nearest and dearest at the stunning Pavilions Phuket Resort in Thailand. Their day was filled with joy, excitement, and heartfelt moments, with photos capturing the couple making the most of every moment together.

Phoebe was stunning in Jamie by Rebecca Ingram, a romantic A-line Mikado satin gown featuring a soft scoop neckline with an illusion plunge and classic covered buttons trailing all the way down to the hem of the train. The addition of pockets was a charming and practical touch. She completed her bridal look with our tulle streamers, adding an elegant flourish that brought her dream look to life.

What was it that made this particular wedding dress catch your eye and fall in love?

What drew me to my gown were the subtle but beautiful details — the buttons down the back, the elegant folds in the fabric — they brought the dress to life. I especially loved the corset style boning that gave the dress structure. It made me feel secure and confident, and it helped shape my figure in the most flattering way. The dramatic train was the cherry on top — when I turned and saw it in the mirror, I finally felt like a bride.

Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.

I always knew I wanted something simple and fairly conservative. I booked an appointment with Astra Bridal and shared a few reference photos. From the moment I arrived, Courtney made me feel completely at ease. She was bubbly, energetic, and so attentive. Between visits, we kept in touch, and each time I returned, she remembered exactly what we’d discussed and brought fresh ideas to the table.

Even though it took me a while to decide, nothing was ever too hard for Courtney. She ultimately recommended a gown I hadn’t initially considered — and I’m so glad I trusted her. When it came time to choose a veil, I knew I didn’t want a traditional headpiece. Once again, Courtney read my mind and pulled out streamers — and they were perfect. The whole experience was seamless and genuinely special.

Tell us your story, how you both met, and the proposal.

We have the classic friends-to-lovers story. We met in high school through mutual friends and spent years getting to know each other, strictly as friends, until one day, we were more than friends. It caught us both by surprise, but at the same time, it was a moment of realisation—like, obviously we were more than just friends.

Having known each other for so long, our relationship evolved so organically—from friends, to partners, to husband and wife. It’s something we feel incredibly lucky to have experienced. Building our relationship on the foundation of friendship has created a deep sense of respect and understanding. He truly is my best friend.

He proposed during a birthday trip to one of our favourite spots, Taupo. After dinner one night, we took a walk along the lake at sunset. Although we had discussed getting married, he had told me he didn’t have a ring yet, so I had no idea what was coming. As we strolled along the boardwalk, he stopped to “tie his shoe,” called my name, and when I turned around, he was down on one knee.

What was your favourite part of the day?

Since we were getting married in Thailand’s heat, we planned a relaxed day with a sunset ceremony. We spent the morning lounging by the pool with loved ones, soaking in every moment. My favourite part of the day was right after the ceremony—Devon and I went off alone to take some photos. We had a couple of hours just to ourselves, and it was incredibly special.

Tell us about your wedding day as a whole.

We held our wedding at The Pavilions Phuket Resort, and the resort’s wedding planner truly went above and beyond. For about six months leading up to the big day, we communicated regularly via email and WhatsApp, sharing ideas, inspiration photos, and plans. She absolutely nailed every detail — I couldn’t have asked for more.

The Pavilions Resort coordinated everything — makeup, hair, flowers, cake — and it made the experience so stress-free. Our photographer, Jaran Photography, works closely with the resort and captured the day beautifully.

Since we had a sunset ceremony, we wanted a laid-back morning. My sister-in-law and I woke early for a sunrise walk, followed by a gym session to burn off the excitement. The rest of the day was spent by the pool with our family, laughing and relaxing.

Around 1 pm, we began getting ready — the vibe was calm, light-hearted, and exactly what I had hoped for. After the ceremony, Devon and I had our photo session, then rejoined our guests for an intimate reception dinner and cake cutting.

We had a very small wedding, and that intimacy made everything feel incredibly personal and meaningful. It was the perfect day, and we’re so glad we chose to do it this way.

Finally, what is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?

My biggest advice: Do what makes YOU happy.

For a while, we planned a large New Zealand wedding with over 80 guests, simply because we felt we "should." It began to feel like an obligation rather than a celebration. Once we made the decision to follow our hearts and create the day we wanted—a small, destination wedding—everything fell into place.

Don’t be afraid to go against tradition. We skipped the first dance and chose to spend the night before the wedding together—things people told us we “shouldn’t” do. But those decisions made our day feel genuinely us, and that’s what made it so special.
