Intimate Barn Wedding at Sudbury

Roz and Richard said “I Do” at the rustic Sudbury, surrounded by their loved ones. Their wedding day was filled with happiness and love, with these photos capturing a glimpse of the joy, smiles, and special moments they shared as they celebrated their big day.

Roz looked incredible in Jenrose by Rebecca Ingram, a plunging V neck fit and flare gown featuring a beautifully beaded bodice, with delicate beading trickling down into the soft crepe skirt. Classic covered buttons flowed down the back to the bottom of the train, adding a timeless finishing touch.

We hope you enjoy browsing the highlights of their beautiful day and catching a glimpse into Roz’s journey with Astra Bridal as she found her dream dress.

What was it that made this particular wedding dress catch your eye and fall in love?

I tried on eight dresses. The dress I chose was the first dress I tried on. I loved it, but wanted to try other dresses in case I found something else I liked. I ended up with three favourites and tried these on again. I chose my dress because it was the one that nearly made me cry, and I could see myself walking down the aisle to my now husband. It was an amazing feeling; I knew it was the one.

I have seen Astra Bridal promoted before. When I went to the store with my whānau, Lisa was amazing. She knew exactly what types of dresses would suit my shape, and I gave her an idea of what I had in mind. I absolutely loved Lisa’s feedback. She was open and honest (I would prefer someone to tell me a dress didn’t suit me rather than prioritise a sale). Lisa was also very skilled and knowledgeable about dresses, materials, shapes, and which dresses best suit different body types.

Tell us your story, how you both met, and the proposal.

Here are our vows, which will give you an idea...

Richard and Roz first connected in early 2024. Very soon, they realised how much they had in common and how aligned their paths were. From working out at the gym together to sharing a love for the outdoors, Rich and Roz soon became inseparable. As their relationship developed, Rich and Roz recognised the importance of ensuring their children felt comfortable and loved, and as such, set about bringing their two families together to develop their own trusted relationships.

Fast forward to May 2025. Roz and Richard were in Rarotonga. Little did Roz know that, prior to flying to Rarotonga, Richard had the perfect words for his proposal and his smoke screen planned out. The words had been rehearsed in his head like a song on repeat. Roz and Richard had a great day being together, swimming with the turtles and then walking along the beach. Early evening, they were enjoying cocktails and canapés on the beachfront, looking out over the water. Richard’s attempted smoke screen almost backfired, and when he got down on one knee, in that moment of emotion, he initially forgot what he had rehearsed. Richard soon popped the question, and of course, Roz said yes.

What was your favourite part of the day?

For both Rich and me, we both agree that the whole day was magical. What was really lovely was that although it rained all day, when we needed it to stop, it did. The rain stopped when:

The bridal party arrived at the venue and needed to walk to the shed where the ceremony was being held (it started again as soon as we got inside).

The ceremony finished, and we were being congratulated by our guests outside.

We left on foot to get our wedding party photos.

We returned to the main part of the venue for the reception. As soon as we got inside, it started raining.

The dancing was outside. The rain stopped as soon as the music started.

Someone was looking over us, maybe my mother and father, as they have both passed away (both Rich’s parents are still alive). What was also interesting was that during the ceremony, when it was raining, little birds came inside and were tweeting all the way through the ceremony. It was really special.

Tell us about your wedding day as a whole.

The wedding day was magical. We had a small but intimate, whānau centric wedding, with Rich and I expressing our love for each other in front of the people we loved most. Rich’s two children and my three daughters were all part of the wedding party. The weather, while raining, was still lovely. It wasn’t too hot or cold, and the rain stopped when we needed it to.

Following our photos, we all sat down to the most incredible meal. We got so many great comments about the food, and I don’t think there was anything left over!!! My now sister in law was an amazing MC and kept things to time, while my now brother in law took care of the music, which helped keep the mood light and intimate. DJ Mickey ended the night with a selection of great music, which helped everyone dance off the good food in their bellies.

Everything about our day was fantastic. Rich and I couldn’t choose a favourite part; it was a truly memorable occasion.

Finally, what is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?

While the coordination leading up to the wedding can be hectic, on your special day, remember to embrace every minute and live in the moment. The time passes so quickly. Have a really good photographer so that you can capture every special moment, and choose a dress that makes you feel beautiful.
