Intimate Elopement in the Southern Alps

Dayna and Jack held their intimate mountain elopement in New Zealand's Southern Alps, with just themselves, their celebrant, two photographers, and helicopter pilot present. Being a special place for them both, they decided to tie the knot surrounded by stunning South Island nature and its mountain ranges.

Dayna chose the dreamy mermaid 1844 dress by Kenneth Winston. This dress shows off her figure beautifully, and the deep plunging back with shoestring strap detail is a statement of pure elegance. The floral and leaf lace also ties in gorgeously with the setting of their elopement.

What was it that made this particular wedding dress catch your eye and fall in love?

The detail, the lace, the colour, the back...There were so many things about this dress that made it special and I knew it was the dress as soon as I saw it.

Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.

My search for a dress was incredibly short because as soon as I lay eyes on my dress I knew it was the one. The ladies at Astra Hamilton were incredibly helpful and made me feel like I was surrounded by friends and family in their presence by always hyping me up and making me feel like a million dollars.

Tell us your story, how you both met, and the proposal.

Jack and I met through mutual friends and had a genuine love at first sight reaction. Since the day we met we've been inseparable. The South Island is special to both of us and once we found out about Mountain Weddings decided there was nothing more suitable than just us two eloping amongst the snow capped mountains.

What was your favourite part of the day?

Jack and I are super relaxed and just wanted a super fun relaxed day without any dramas or stress. Our day was that and more. We had so much fun, so much laughter and many happy tears. We had our actual ceremony at Lochnagar with just ourselves, our two photographers, our celebrant and our helicopter pilot. The picturesque surroundings, together with the stillness from being nestled in the southern alps was absolutely breathtaking.

Tell us about your wedding day as a whole.

Our day was so special. The weather was absolutely perfect without even a stitch of wind which when you're in the alps is the difference between being cold or comfortable. Lake Wanaka and Lochnagar were so still, you could see the reflection of the mountains on the water which was breathtaking. Our day together felt like a special date. It was filled with so much laughter and fun. We first flew into Lochnagar where we had our ceremony and our first photos and then ended the day at Coromandel Peak with a bottle of Moet and the sun setting over Lake Wanaka.
