Fiona and Dylan have a modern day romance Tinder story - they swiped right in 2016 while in Ireland. Their relationship went from 0-100 fairly quickly when Dylan announced early on that he was moving to Australia. Fiona took a leap of faith and followed him, six months later they moved to New Zealand. While on holiday in Queenstown, Dylan insisted on carrying his rucksack around all day, Fiona couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t leave it in the car. They eventually got to their accommodation at Lake Hayes - Fiona was videoing their Airbnb to show her family back home when she turned around to see Dylan down on one knee! Turned out he had been carrying the ring around all day, too scared to leave it in the car.
Fiona wore the Caleb by Jenny Yoo, “I had no idea what style I wanted in a gown, I knew I wanted something classic and simple. I initially picked out four completely different styled dressed to get an idea of what I liked. It was interesting because when I tried on what I thought was going to be the dress, it just wasn’t the one. I felt like I had imposter syndrome initially seeing myself in wedding dresses! I eventually chose the Jenny Yoo, Caleb dress. I loved the buttons down the back and how it flattered my shape. The dress also fit me like a glove, I just had to get the length adjusted. It was the second dress that I tried on. I went home and slept on it and was called the shop first thing the following day to say yes to the dress! The veil was then the cherry on top! I felt it brought the whole outfit together on top of the mountain. When the wind caught it, it stole the show!!”
With their families in Ireland and changing Covid restrictions, Fiona and Dylan chose to elope in Queenstown. After a breakfast at Akarua vineyards in the morning, hair and makeup arrived at their Airbnb. Fiona got dressed and met Dylan on the lawn for their first look. It felt like something out of a movie as Fiona and Dylan got into the helicopter in their wedding attire. The ceremony took place a top of the mountain during sunset!
