What was it that made this particular wedding dress catch your eye and fall in love?
The moment I put the dress on I was obsessed, my bridesmaids didn't like it at first as it was a size too small so it didn't fit me correctly but the second time I went in and tried the correct size I knew that was gonna be the dress I got! Tweaked/customised it a little but it was the most stunning dress I tried on.
Tell us about your search for the dress and the experience at Astra Bridal.
Astra Bridal was the 4th place I visited to try on wedding dresses, the one huge thing that stood out with Astra Bridal was how accommodating all the staff is and how passionate they are to make sure you find the perfect dress for you! Ilyese helped me and I can't thank her enough. She was running around to help me get exactly what I was after and she made the experience so much fun and so so so easy! She was so excited to make sure I found the right one without any pressure, from choosing the dress to picking it up when it arrived, I was emailed every part of the process to keep me updated.
Tell us your story, how you both met, and the proposal.
We met through my cousin who is also one of Chits' best friends, while I was living in Nelson and had come up to Auckland for an Indian dance festival (Garba). Chits’ brother had just returned from an OE in England after 2~years. Once he was out of MIQ we had planned a “surprise return party for him” that I thought I was taking him to. Chits, with the help of all his/my friends compiled a 30min video consisting of a few questions answered by our close friends and family relating to us and our relationship, and Chits answered a few things about me at the end of the video. I watched that on a projector with all our close family and friends there around me. At the end of the video, I walked behind where I was sitting towards going outside to a picturesque Waiheke backdrop to see Chits on one knee.
What was your favourite part of the day?
I had too many days that were celebrated with all the pre-wedding events but I have to say having all my family and friends together was my favorite. I had friends and family from America, India and Australia that attended my week of wedding events. Being able to celebrate this with my closest and dearest was so so special.
Tell us about your wedding day as a whole.
The day started off with a sunny, clear sky which was exciting as our civil ceremony was outdoors. I got ready at the venue with my bridesmaids which was a lot of fun with so much laughter even with us being super tired as it was the last day of the big fat Indian wedding! As soon as our ceremony was about to finish, we got to the part of signing the papers and it started drizzling with us having to wrap it up quickly and running into the marquee. The rest of the night was followed by speeches, cake cutting, our first dance, and ending with everyone on the dance floor!
Finally, what is your biggest piece of advice for brides to be?
Honestly just have fun, if something doesn't turn out how you wanted on the day let it be, and don't let it affect you, and enjoy every little moment! It goes by so quick that the next day you wake up wanting to do it all over again haha.
